End Poverty Now is a Canadian registered charity, whose members have the energy and drive to help make a difference in the world. End Poverty Now is an emerging organization that is focused on the universal, ever-growing problem of global abject poverty.
As an organization, we believe that poverty alleviation must operate on numerous levels: through grassroots redistribution projects, education, and our InReach program. In these initiatives, our organization brings hope and help to real people all over the world facing a daily struggle for survival.
Why is poverty an important issue?
While many of us associate poverty with images of third world slums, the reality is that poverty is present in every society. Both Canadians and non-Canadians need help in the struggle against poverty. Poverty affects each and every one of us by creating economic and political instability and by causing environmental degradation.
Approximately 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 per day, with one third of deaths worldwide attributed to poverty-related causes. The problem of poverty is complex and widespread. Since it cannot be attributed to a single cause, there is no straightforward solution to this ever-growing issue. End Poverty Now does not seek to eradicate this global problem in a day, or even a decade. However, we do believe that by mobilizing as many people as possible in the fight against poverty, this injustice will gradually begin to right itself. Every minute of time or penny donated to this cause means that somewhere, someone’s life has improved.

3. Where Your Money Goes
End Poverty Now is dedicated to alleviating poverty on various levels. Our financial policy is as follows:
70% Grassroots Development and Redistribution Initiatives
20% Education & InReach, including Literature and Publications
10% Administrative Costs
Grassroots development and redistribution initiatives
End Poverty Now dedicates 70% of its funds directly to grassroots poverty reduction projects. To maintain its integrity, EPN operates under the strict guidelines of the Income Tax Act for charities under the Canadian Revenue Agency. This means that EPN can guide both the sustainability and the quality of its projects. Before the initiation of these ventures, long-term cost and benefit scenarios were created and the projects are analyzed in detail. By working directly with community members, EPN aims to affect positive change in our world.
Education
Our organization works hard to educate citizens about the realities of global poverty. Our website serves as a portal of information about poverty-related issues. Additionally, End Poverty Now raises awareness about poverty through various publications, including our annual academic journal, Means to an End, our quarterly newsletters and the monthly Poverty-in-the-News stream posted on our website and facebook page. One of our most unique features is our Poverty Education Curriculum that is available for schools to educate youth about poverty-related issues.
InReach Program
The InReach Program is designed to create resources and opportunities for any person or group that wishes to work towards alleviating global poverty. End Poverty Now believes in the power of the human spirit can overcome any obstacle, and when people are given the right tools to help, they will use them to build a better future for themselves and others. The InReach Program exists on two levels, EPN Chapters and our Cooperation initiative.
4. Ways in Which Your Company Can Support Us
Sponsorship versus Donation
As a registered charity, End Poverty Now is able to issue to charitable receipts for donations made to our organization. Should you wish to make a donation to our organization, End Poverty Now will recognize your company through publicly thanking you on our website. Should your company wish to sponsor End Poverty Now, we will feature your company logo and name on our website and marketing media.
Alternative Participation with EndPovertyNow
Ø Start a Pamphlet Campaign
We encourage corporations to hand out donation forms and/or absentee membership forms to all clients and staff members. In this way, your corporation can simultaneously help to increase poverty awareness and to raise funds for End Poverty Now.
Ø Hold an End Poverty Now Day
This initiative involves the donation of a percentage of profits from a particular day’s revenues to End Poverty Now. This would not only raise funds for our organization, but would also raise awareness about End Poverty Now and poverty-related issues. During this day, we would ask that all staff members wear End Poverty Now t-shirts.
Ø Organize an Event
An event organized by your company can help raise funds for End Poverty Now. This project can take on various forms, and we encourage you to organize an event that best suits your company’s staff and clientele such as:
- Office raffle
- Golf tournament
- Silent auction
- Inter-departmental fundraising competition
This project would not only encourage your staff to work together in a more cohesive manner, but would also help to raise money for a deserving organization.
Ø Hold a Dollar Drive
This initiative involves asking each client, upon being billed, whether they would like to add an extra dollar to their bill to be donated to End Poverty Now. The decision to add the extra dollar is, of course, up to the client. Additionally, you may wish to make End Poverty Now informational materials available to your clients for their perusal. This project is best suited to businesses that have a large number of clients passing through their doors on a daily basis.
Ø Match Employee/Client Fundraising
This project involves encouraging both staff and clients to make donations to End Poverty Now. In return, the company agrees to match all funds collected. To further encourage teamwork and spirit, your company may want to consider holding an interdepartmental competition to see who can raise the most funds, and perhaps donate a prize to the winning department.

This project is designed to show on-going support of End Poverty Now by holding numerous events over the year in support of our organization.
Give a Corporate Donation
There are a number of ways in which your company can donate to End Poverty Now:
One-Time Donation
A one-time donation to End Poverty Now is truly a gift; your donation would go directly to the fight against poverty. A donation to End Poverty Now offers assistance locally, nationally and internationally. Education, lobbying and grassroots development are all key processes in combating poverty and all of these initiatives receive funding when you make your donation. Your donation would allow our organization to move forward in the fight against global poverty.
Rolling Donation
Consistent, sustained donations to End Poverty Now provide the assistance necessary to keep our organization functioning at its fullest capacity and help our organization to maintain a stable operating base. Your funding will allow crucial information to reach the community, provide youth leaders with the chance to do grassroots development work, support lobbying efforts pushing for crucial government reform, and provide support worldwide for fighting poverty at the local level.
Endowment
In order for our organization to continue working against poverty, End Poverty Now is seeking endowment donations whereby donated funds are invested and the interest payments are put towards the yearly operating budget of our organization. Endowment donors are encouraged to make substantial individual endowment donations or to contribute to existing endowment donations.
Give a Gift In Kind or Pro Bono Services
End Poverty Now continuously works to keep its administrative overhead costs as low as possible. With this in mind, we are always appreciative of any helpful, pro bono expertise that can be offered. Additionally, gifts in kind are always welcome. The various supplies required by End Poverty Now change depending upon our current projects, and can range from loaves of bread to computers.
The challenge of global poverty is not simply going to disappear. Poverty is a gross violation of human rights and it is our responsibility as global citizens to take action and make a difference.
