Our newsletter, EPN Monthly, contains an eclectic mix of informative articles, special features and reports, and information specific to our organization, such as updates on our latest activities and a list of upcoming EPN events. Our academic journal, Means to An End, is published yearly and relies on submissions from university students and professors from across the country. It serves as a platform for rigorous academic inquiry into the nature, causes and manifestations of poverty, as well as the effects of work intended to reverse its progress. As an exciting new medium for the discussion of issues related to poverty, EPN has recently undertaken the recording of monthly podcasts! These brief recordings will take an innovative, positive approach to the promotion of poverty awareness. We hope to discuss current topics in development, including the problems and successes of third world and Canadian development. Most importantly, we aim to discourage cynicism and indifference by highlighting the dynamism of the poverty and development field, while promoting the active engagement which is so vital to its successes. Our first working paper, developed by the Directional Committee, addresses poverty's central issues by answering the question: “What is poverty?” This well-researched and thorough explanation of poverty's basic fundamentals aims to promote our mandate of alleviating global abject poverty. It explores “what” and “where is poverty,” who is most affected by poverty, the causes of poverty, methods of measuring poverty, and potential solutions to the poverty crisis. Whether you have an extensive background in studying poverty or have no previous knowledge regarding the issue, this paper provides a wide-range of essential poverty-related information.
